Hi, this is Mary Jo and I'm your designer. I graduated from Louisiana State University with an interior design degree and have been working in the industry ever since.

This gorgeous two story living room with a fireplace and built-ins is a dream room. There are so many great details to this room and despite the furniture we have to work around, this room is going to turn out even more beautiful. Our hope is that these next suggestions give you a framework of what to do next and a how to pull it all together.

Let's start with talking about the colors in the room. We absolutely love that you are a bright color person and want there to be lots of "pop" through out the room. The blue that we agreed on, is going to look great in the room and help set the tone for the rest of the decor. As discussed, we chose to use orange/pink/red as the accent colors in the rest of the room with hints of yellow and grey. All of these colors in the right amount, balance each other out and utilize the natural lighting. For the tile around the fireplace, we chose a blue color that we think will look great with the other colors however, a darker shade of teal would be fine too.

Your main concern for the room was adding extra seating in a place that had a large sofa. We played around with two different scenarios because we thought that both would look great but one has more seating than the other. The first layout keeps the sofa where you have it now, and switches out the chair you have now for another one. We LOVE that teal poufs you showed us, but gave a (non-smelly) option of two bright orange ottomans/poufs that will add more seating. This means that you will have 6 seats including the poufs.
