Hi, this is Mary Jo and I'm your designer. I graduated from Louisiana State University with an interior design degree and have been working in the industry ever since.
Your den has a great ceiling, fireplace, and perfect access to the other rooms- all are ideal character traits for a room like this. We wanted to update it and give it some modern furniture that was also comfortable and would give you a great place to hang out.
The biggest change we made in the room was to move the TV from the armoire to the fireplace. By making the fireplace the focal point, you can orient the room towards it. The furniture placement is centered with a sofa that faces the TV. It is placed so that if you walk out of the kitchen, you come right to it. We picked out two different sofas for you to chose from and each have options to go with it.
If you chose the Veranda Sofa, the wall to the right of the fireplace (where the sofa used to be) would have two club chairs. We picked out two different ones- one has a fun print and the other a subdued stripe. If you chose the Graham sofa, that same wall would have a matching love seat instead of two club chairs. With both of these arrangements, we thought a modern leather wingback would look great next to the sofa (on the right, by the wall where the bookcases used to be) to give a little variation in the arrangement. We found two different wing backs that would fit the bill. This open seating helps the movement in the room and makes it more inviting.
The colors in the room are based around the painting that will be on the wall next the fireplace. This calming print has blue, gray and bits of gold that we wanted to pick up around the room.
